Bernie Scolaro spent a career as an Iowa teachers' union president and school board member, fighting vouchers and protecting LGBTQ+ students, before moving to Sun City full-time two years ago. A Hillary Clinton caucus captain back when Iowa was key, and Kamala Harris's campaign once sought an endorsement directly. Scolaro might be new to Beaufort County but is not new to the fight.
