Reproductive Freedom Amendment

I don't think government should dictate private health decisions between a doctor and their pregnant patient.

A vote for yes approves adding a fundamental right to reproductive freedoms to the state constitution, enshrining the rights to IVF, birth control, and abortion access in Virginia.

We need reproductive freedom because women are literally dying without it. I will dig into the amendment and ensure it protects women.

It would put a constitutional right to make personal decisions about reproductive health care into the Virginia Constitution, including:

• contraception

• pregnancy and prenatal care

• childbirth

• postpartum care

• miscarriage management

• abortion

• fertility care

It would also protect patients and health-care professionals from being punished for making or providing those decisions.

There is a specific abortion limitation: the proposed amendment permits the legislature to restrict abortion in the third trimester, except when the patient’s health is at risk or the pregnancy cannot survive.
