The city's mazelike permitting process for housing persists as a perennial contributor to our housing shortage. Mayor Daniel Lurie seeks to simplify housing approvals as part of his PermitSF campaign, by combining the Planning Department with the Department of Building Inspections. Unifying these two important departments will create a new optimized pathway to build more housing. Enacting this reform requires voters to pass Proposition F, which cleans up the City Charter so Mayor Lurie and future mayors can streamline and reorganize city departments. SF YIMBY endorses a vote of YES to fix a long-broken system that worsens our housing shortage.
