Climate disasters don’t stop at prison gates. People inside face extreme heat, wildfire smoke, and floods — often without clean air, cooling, or timely medical response.
What AB 1424 does:
Treats climate events in prisons like community emergencies.
Requires real emergency plans (cooling/clean air, hydration, evacuation/relocation when needed).
Mandates rapid response protocols and accountability so facilities act before tragedy hits.
Why it matters: Climate justice is about everyone’s right to survive a crisis, inside and out. Dignity and safety shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code or custody status.
