Wisconsin Governor

Open seat

As governor, he’ll never tire from the fight to get dangerous weapons off of the Badger State’s streets and finally sign commonsense measures like universal background checks, red flag laws, and stronger safe storage measures into law once and for all.

Governor Tony Evers announced he will not seek re-election, opening up a seat in one of the most consequential battleground states in the country for both presidential and Senate races.

The governor plays a critical role in Wisconsin’s redistricting process, with the power to sign or veto maps passed by the state legislature. With the current governorship open and the legislature divided, holding this seat is essential to keeping Republicans from drawing themselves a structural advantage before 2028.

“Tonight’s results reflect months of hard work by our grassroots activists who have been showing up in communities across Wisconsin and having conversations with their neighbors about the future of our state. “We’re connecting with Wisconsinites to support Tom Tiffany and our legislative champions who are committed to bold reforms that lower costs and help Wisconsin families and businesses succeed. “With AFP-WI already knocking on more than half a million doors, we’re ready to continue building on our canvassing efforts statewide and support Tom and our full slate of legislative candidates through November.”

David Crowley - Candidate for Wisconsin Governor

The son of an electrician and a service worker, David Crowley grew up facing housing instability and food insecurity, experiences that still shape how he leads. A former state representative, he now serves his second term as Milwaukee County Executive, the first Black person elected to that office. He is running for Governor on “Badger Basics,” a plan built on affordability, care, and opportunity for working families across Wisconsin.

David Crowley knows public safety starts with public health. That’s why, as Milwaukee County Executive, his administration has made historic investments in mental health, violence prevention, and services to support youth, seniors, and veterans. Crowley’s gun violence prevention investments include: launching the Advance Peace initiative, an evidence-based gun violence prevention program that connects high-risk youth with intensive support and opportunities, investing $80 million in Milwaukee County’s public safety, and securing state funding for new community violence intervention programs. Electing both Crowley and Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski to the governor and lieutenant governor’s offices will ensure that investments in Wisconsin’s public safety will continue.

“As the men and women who serve on the front lines of public safety every day, we recognize leaders who support law enforcement not just with words, but through action. Congressman Tiffany has consistently championed policies that strengthen law enforcement, uphold the rule of law, and protect Wisconsin families. His commitment to securing our borders, banning sanctuary cities, ending revolving-door criminal justice policies, and ensuring law enforcement has the resources and authority necessary to do its job reflects the values shared by those who proudly wear the badge. Wisconsin deserves a governor who stands firmly behind law enforcement and refuses to compromise public safety,” said Milwaukee Deputy Sheriffs’ Association President, Carlos Bruno.

His father worked as an electrician and his mother worked in the service industry, while both battled addiction and mental health struggles. David never knew if he would come home from school to find his family's belongings on the curb due to another eviction, food in the kitchen, or the heat and lights still on. He learned early that hard work alone isn't always enough. That when systems fail, families feel it first.

His lived experience is not just his backstory.

It is how he governs. He will do whatever it takes to make sure children and families are safe, healthy, and able to thrive. Every child, every resident, every family deserves a Wisconsin full of opportunity.

Because at the end of the day, David Crowley knows what it feels like when the basics are out of reach — and what it looks like when a community finally gets what it needs. That is the governor he will be for every Wisconsinite.

“David Crowley has a proven record of delivering results for Wisconsin communities and the first responders who serve them. He understands that strong public safety starts with making sure firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical personnel have the staffing, equipment, training, and resources necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin President Jerry Biggart. “From helping secure additional state resources for local governments to consistently standing up for working families and public servants, David has shown the kind of leadership Wisconsin needs. We are proud to endorse him for Governor.”

Congratulations to the Democratic primary winners going on to the General Election on November 3rd, 2026.

Milwaukee County Executive

David Crowley has a plan for how to permanently fix our broken school funding system to ensure that all students get what they need to thrive, take the burden off of property taxpayers and end the referendum roller coaster school districts have been on for over a decade. His plan includes fair pay and benefits for educators with a voice in the workplace, and above all, respect for our profession.

“The Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) is proud to endorse Tom Tiffany for Governor. Tom understands that housing affordability isn’t just a family issue — it’s an economic issue, and it demands a governor who will support policies that expand housing supply and Wisconsin’s building industry. A longtime supporter of these efforts, we’re confident he’ll be a partner in continuing the progress we’ve made and pushing it further,” said WBA President, Andy Selner.

The Wisconsin College Republicans endorsed Congressman Tom Tiffany for Governor after supporting him throughout his time serving in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. We are committed to ensuring that he replaces Tony Evers and leads our State to greater heights.
