Currently, Virginia’s Constitution makes felony convictions a basis for loss of voting rights, with restoration handled through the state’s restoration process. The amendment would instead establish automatic restoration of voting rights upon release from incarceration for the felony conviction.

It does not mean someone currently incarcerated for a felony could vote. The proposed change concerns what happens after release from incarceration.
