New York General Election
Goshen Town Justice
Robert Middlemiss
After serving as a prosecutor for 16 years, I now serve as Principal Law Clerk to The Honorable Brett Broge. My current position allows me the opportunity to serve as Goshen Town Justice and, in the upcoming November election, I am running for that position. I firmly believe that, particularly in the current political environment, judges who focus on preserving the integrity of our legal system and due process are more important than ever. I plan to be exactly such a judge. Quite simply, I believe in judges engaging with the community to show and tell them what the courts are doing to ensure that everyone who comes to court will receive the due process they are entitled to; that cases will have as prompt a resolution as possible; and that it will be the most just resolution the system allows based on the facts of the case. My criminal law experience as a prosecutor and having spent much of my career with the District Attorney's office handling criminal appeals - which necessarily focused on procedural issues – renders me, by far, the best qualified candidate for the position. On a more personal note, I am deeply proud of the time I have spent as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Goshen's Boy Scout Troop 63. I want to incorporate some of my experience working with local youth into coming up with ways to collaborate with the school district to help familiarize students with how things work in the court system. My wife, son, daughter, and I are deeply grateful for everything we have gained from being a part of our Goshen community, and we are always looking for ways that we can give back through service.
Goshen Town Supervisor
Sam Bergsohn
Sam Bergsohn is a longtime Goshen resident and an attorney dedicated to standing up for his neighbors. Sam advocates for our community in the courtroom, as a nonprofit leader and as an engaged Goshen parent. In his roles on Goshen’s Zoning Board of Appeals and Environmental Review Board, Sam has been dedicated to ensuring Goshen’s growth reflects the needs of local residents rather than serving entrenched interests. Sam’s life was profoundly shaped by the loss of his father, Alvin, in the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11. The support his family received from their community during that time instilled in him a lasting commitment to service that continues to guide his work to this day. As Town Supervisor, Sam will work tirelessly to lift up our community in that same way. Since 2021, Sam has been a senior attorney for Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, successfully defeating the same powerful interests he’d stand up to as Goshen Supervisor. A devoted husband to his wife Ashleigh and father to three young children, a leader for local civic groups, and a musician. Sam is committed to thoughtful leadership, responsible planning, and ensuring every Goshen resident feels seen, heard, and valued. His only job will be fighting for you.
