DC General Election
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1A03
Joseph Schmitt
In Schmitt’s words: “There is a condemned building in my SMD that needs to be torn down and rebuilt with new housing. There’s also a small church parking lot that would be good to make into something more useful, since it’s empty and locked up at all times except during church hours.” Schmitt deserves your vote.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1A04

Jeremy Sherman
Incumbent Sherman has been in close alignment with GGWash’s priorities since his first term as a commissioner. He’s particularly interested in the structural changes needed to facilitate better neighborhood management, and his prioritization of well-maintained public spaces—“Land-use policy cannot be separated from what happens at street level. Adding housing and transit investment should go hand-in-hand with stronger public spaces, active storefronts, cleaner streets and neighborhood amenities”—is highly relevant to ANC 1A’s purview.
We appreciate Sherman’s opponent Henderson’s response to our questionnaire, but do not feel that his views are as compatible with ours as Sherman’s.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1A06
Arjun Singh
Singh is in favor of more housing and fewer trips by car, with no caveats. We especially like his straightforward response to where more housing could be built in his single-member district: “I’d start on my own street.”
We appreciate Singh’s opponent, incumbent Thomas-Davis’, response to our questionnaire, but do not feel that his views are as compatible with ours as Singh’s.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1A07
Shane D. McCarthy
In McCarthy’s words: ‘I believe that owners should be given more leeway and incentives to redesign houses that were traditionally meant for single families into multiple-unit buildings, and believe they can do so without making major changes to the character and look of the neighborhood. There are also several blighted properties under assessment by the District which can eventually be converted into multiple-unit housing.” McCarthy deserves your vote.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1A09
Daniella Kelley
In Kelley’s words: “I love my neighborhood and I want to see its residents thrive. I want my constituents to live in affordable, green, safe, and accessible neighborhood where they feel heard and they feel like they belong. If I am re-elected as Commissioner for ANC 1A09, I will spend my term in service of this goal.” Kelley deserves your vote.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1A10
Vida Rangel
In Rangel’s words: “ANC 1A is one of the most dense in the District, but there are opportunities to continue the successful work in our ANC of building new units on underutilized lots, redeveloping vacant and blighted properties.” Rangel deserves your vote.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1B02
Frank Chauvin
In Chauvin’s words: “We should also advance long-term affordability by pursuing greater DC capacity for social housing and exploring models similar to those established in Montgomery County, Maryland.” Chauvin deserves your vote.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1B03
David Seidman
Seidman has been primarily engaged with pro-democracy and statehood efforts, but is also supportive of building more homes and bus and bike lanes. “I love DC, and I love cities. I have only ever lived in cities. I approach every policy question through the lens of improving my neighbors’ quality of life…,” he writes.
Swiderski’s responses to our questionnaire are more thorough than Seidman’s, and they possess a more realistic philosophy of representative government. Swiderski is a consistent presence in Ward 1 who has tangibly made its streets safer in both their personal and professional capacity, and is indisputably pro-housing.
The ANC 1B03 race, which has three candidates, will be decided by a ranked-choice ballot. Seidman and Swiderski deserve your vote, in any order.

Guneev Sharma
In Sharma’s words: “We should continue to look at open lots that can (and should) be made available to be turned into something of practical use, such as housing, commercial, or even common amenities like parks or playgrounds. We should also ease the rules and processes to create multifamily rowhomes (while keeping its historic architectural facade) as another means to attract more residents.” Sharma deserves your vote.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1B05
Lisa Rucker
Rucker is firmly pro-housing and would support removing parking and travel lanes to build bus and bike lanes—all stances appropriate for a commissioner representing the U Street NW corridor. Rucker deserves your vote.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1B07

Matthew Holden
In Holden’s words: “In 1B07, the biggest issues are the redevelopment of the Reeves Center and potential redevelopment of the Police and Fire Stations at 1617 U Street. I am supportive of both the current proposal for the Reeves center and am excited about the potential for a future project at 1617 U Street.” Holden deserves your vote.
District of Columbia Advisory Neighborhood Commission - District 1B08
Brittany Beekman
In Beekman’s words: “As a mom who cherishes the community we have built in our neighborhood, it would be devastating to have to leave our neighborhood if we outgrew our home and could not find an affordable option to support the size of our family as it changes.” Beekman deserves your vote.
