Abdul El-Sayed is running to represent Michigan in the United States Senate. El-Sayed was born and raised in Michigan where he graduated from the University of Michigan, then earned a doctorate in public health from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and an M.D. from Columbia University. Rather than practicing medicine, he built a career in public health leadership and academia, teaching at Columbia, then serving as Detroit’s health director and later Wayne County’s health director.
