In 2020, Senator Hickenlooper’s election was one of GIFFORDS’s top priorities, and because of his strong record of leadership in his state, we were able to flip his seat blue and unseat one of the gun lobby’s biggest enablers. Everyday since he was sworn in, he’s shown he is the champion Coloradans need fighting on their behalf in Washington DC.

He has consistently worked to bridge divides, support law enforcement, and advance policies that prevent violence before it occurs. Throughout their tenure, when Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan have drafted their state budgets, they have made sure to incorporate gun safety measures, including investments in new violence prevention programs that will save lives. Together, they have also started a statewide gun safety initiative to promote responsible gun ownership and to help prevent gun related injuries and thefts.

In office, Congressman Pappas has supported countless commonsense, lifesaving gun safety measures, including legislation to implement universal background checks on all gun sales and close the Charleston Loophole, keep firearms out of the hands of individuals who have committed domestic abuse, and adequately fund research into the root causes of gun violence.

In his many years in the Senate, he’s championed commonsense gun safety measures like universal background checks, red flag laws, and bans on dangerous hardware like assault weapons and large-capacity magazines nationwide—all of which have already proven to be effective in New Jersey.

In every role, Governor Cooper has proven himself to be an unmatched gun safety champion. As a gun owner himself, he knows that we can and must respect the Second Amendment rights of anyone who chooses to responsibly own firearms—and that we can also work to pass real reforms needed to safeguard our communities from harm.

During his years in the Senate, Senator Brown was a champion for many of the lifesaving measures that can curb our country’s epidemic of gun violence, including expanding background checks to all gun sales and providing desperately needed funding to lifesaving community violence intervention programs.
