Judge Tristan was admitted to the Illinois bar in 2002. He was appointed to the Cook Circuit Court in 2019 and elected in 2020; this is his first retention election. Since 2021, Judge Tristan has been assigned to the First Municipal District – Civil Jury Courts, where he handles cases involving personal injury, evictions, and contract disputes, in addition to filling in at other courtrooms.
Judge Tristan is active with a variety of moot trial programs, both coaching and judging the participants. He is a member of five bar associations. Comments about his legal knowledge, sensitivity, temperament, diligence, and integrity were all positive. ISBA recommends Judge Gerardo Tristan, Jr. be retained to the Circuit Court of Cook County.
