Ricky Hatch is running unopposed for Weber County Clerk/Auditor.
Think about that for a minute. This is the office responsible for administering our elections, maintaining public records, and overseeing how our tax dollars are spent.
According to publicly reported compensation records, this position paid more than $220,000 in total compensation, including benefits, in 2025.
And we’re just going to hand someone another four years in that office without so much as a job interview?
That’s insane.
I don’t care how long someone has held an office or how qualified they believe themselves to be. When you’re responsible for our elections and our money, you should have to answer to the public, defend your record, and explain why you deserve another term.
These are not lifetime appointments. These are public offices, funded by taxpayers, and the people of Weber County deserve an opportunity to evaluate the people holding them.
Nobody should be entitled to an elected office simply because nobody else showed up to apply for the job.
