Adriana Cabrera is from South Central LA and is an alumna of LA’s community colleges. She has run twice for Los Angeles City Council, getting 14% in 2017 before failing to make the ballot and getting 668 votes in 2022 as a write-in candidate. Her platform includes expanding green spaces on college campuses, creating business opportunities for LACCD graduates, and ensuring college campuses are a one stop shop for student resources, including childcare, legal workshops on tenants rights, immigration defense, wage theft. She wants to democratize trustee governance through participatory budgeting with the community. Veres is heavily favored here, due to incumbency and labor backing, especially from educator unions. Cabrera’s vision for LACCD provides one that is more community centered and driven. Veres should win handily and continue his steady pro-union positioning, but you can defend a vote for Cabrera.
