Natalie Gee is a goddamn progressive unicorn. She’s our dream supervisor for District 4 (the Sunset!).
Natalie is the whole package: a Cantonese-fluent community organizer, a leader in her union, a Lowell and SF State alum. Natalie is a connector, and gets along with everybody from conservative homeowners to young tenants like herself. She’s an experienced City Hall legislative aide: working for D10’s Shamann Walton, she’s written and passed important legislation by centering community voices and building coalitions, a rare skill on the Board given so many newbie supervisors. On day one, Natalie will be ready to deliver for her neighbors in the Sunset.
Natalie is a proven fighter for workers’ rights. As a member leader of her union, IFPTE Local 21, Natalie has fought for full funding of crucial neighborhood services and is supporting Prop D, the Overpaid CEO Salary Tax (#PropD). She’s endorsed by almost every union in town—including the SF Tenants Union! She has the backing of five supes (Walton, Myrna Melgar, Jackie Fielder, Connie Chan, and Chyanne Chen), along with the city’s most progressive current and former elected officials.
If Natalie wins, the Board math will shift to a solid block of 5+ progressive votes. With a progressive majority in November, we can push back on the Mayor’s narrative of downtown recovery with our own narrative of neighborhood recovery. The Sunset’s voices have been ignored by their representatives during the past two elections, but Natalie will bring the community back into City Hall.
Natalie’s opponents include the wiffly-waffly Alan Wong, finally appointed by Mayor Lurie after an embarrassing series of clownish candidates (remember PetStoreGate?); Albert “oops I forgot to file taxes on my nonprofit” Chow, and so on. Conservative PACs are pouring money into the race slamming Gee as a cop-hater, but anyone can see they’re just worried because Gee’s got the ground game. Tell your Sunset friends!
Vote Gee for D4!

Born-and-raised San Franciscan and union leader with IFTE Local 21, Natalie Gee has spent over two decades organizing alongside immigrant and working-class communities — translating neighborhood meetings as a child, drafting COVID-19 hazard pay for grocery workers, and expanding language access protections as Chief of Staff in D10, making her the most qualified candidate in District 4 and the most committed to the Queer community.

In the SFWPC’s two decades of endorsing candidates, we are frequently asked to choose between a good candidate and a better one. In this race, we have something rarer: a candidate who is the whole package — twenty years of community organizing, deep roots in San Francisco, Board-level legislative expertise, and a clear-eyed commitment to the working families who make our city what it is.
Gee began her civic life translating English into Cantonese at neighborhood meetings so her immigrant mother could participate. She co-founded Youth MOJO, spent over a decade organizing in Chinatown, and brought that experience inside City Hall as Chief of Staff to Supervisor Shamann Walton — where she drafted and moved legislation on workers’ rights, affordable housing, transit, healthcare equity, and language access. Twenty years of organizing, followed by Board-level legislative experience. That combination is rare.
On SFWPC’s core issues, Gee’s commitments are concrete: tenant protections over displacement, taxing large corporations over cutting basic services, and transit safety investments that protect the women who depend on Muni to get home safely at night. She is also the sole woman among the top candidates in this race. When women hold power, everyone’s lives improve.SFWPC wishes to acknowledge appointed Supervisor Alan Wongand thank him for his years of partnership with our organization. Through his work at the Children’s Council, as a twice-elected City College trustee, and as a union organizer for homecare and healthcare workers — a workforce that is overwhelmingly women — Supervisor Wong has consistently served those our organization fights for every day. This decision was not made lightly, and we look forward to his continued contributions to this city.

District 4 Supervisor Ranked-Choice Voting
CADC endorsed Albert Chow #1, Alan Wong #2 and Natalie Gee #3, is to ensure we model unity in the Chinese community, and also allow the ranking to differentiate the representations that best represent the community voice given the turbulence in the Sunset in the past 2 years in the fights that CADC has joined and led. With an AAPI population of over 53%, the Sunset District deserves representatives who understand the community. See more here (https://www.sfcadc.org/cadc_endorsed_albert_chow_alan_wong_natalie_gee_for_district_4_supervisor).
Albert Chow for District 4 Supervisor #1
Albert Chow is a proven community leader who led the consequential 2024 No on K campaign that CADC supported, in order to preserve the Great Highway compromise and protect the fabric of Westside’s multigenerational community. As a legacy hardware store owner who knows the nuts and bolts of the neighborhood, and longtime leader of People of Parkside Sunset (POPS), he has built beloved community traditions like Movie Nights and Tree Lighting, and helped launch the Farmers Market, Night Markets, Chinese Culture District and Great Hauntway. Albert has delivered real results, including safer crossings on Sunset Boulevard and $1 million for Taraval merchants affected by L-Taraval construction. He has made a lasting impact across District 4.

Albert Chow is a long-time Sunset District resident and small business owner in San Francisco. He owns Great Wall Hardware on Taraval Street, a family-run store established in 1978 and has been active in the community for decades. Chow serves as president of People of Parkside Sunset (POPS), a neighborhood organization that hosts local events, such as movie nights and markets, and partners with residents and police on quality-of-life issues. Through POPS, he has emphasized community engagement and safety. His campaign highlights include a focus on safe streets, housing affordability and support for small businesses. If there is a candidate whose heart is in the right place, whose motives are pure and genuine, and who truly cares and understands his community, it’s Albert. Juggling the demands of City Hall as a small business owner, along with his strong commitment to family, makes us a little worried that he has bitten off more than he can chew. But Albert is a homegrown candidate who our members overwhelmingly selected as their number one pick for D4 Supervisor. We would love to see him representing his District at City Hall. Rank #1.

Alan Wong was appointed by Mayor Lurie last fall as the supervisor for District 4, following the recall of former supervisor Joel Engardio and the brief tenure of Beya Alcaraz. Wong is a lifelong resident of the Sunset District and a graduate of San Francisco public schools. Before his appointment, Wong served on the City College of San Francisco (CCSF) Board of Trustees, including two terms as board president, and worked as a legislative aide from 2019 to 2023 to longtime D4 supervisor Gordon Mar. While serving as CCSF Board President, the board resisted cost-cutting measures, favored union-aligned leadership choices and delayed and undermined financial reforms that could have helped stabilize the college’s finances. Alan is heavily backed and supported by a large number of unions, which means he will be beholden to a significant number of unions. While it doesn’t really make sense to us to vote for a guy who worked for the supervisor who D4 did not re-elect, he might be a marginally less progressive option than Natalie Gee. RANK #2

Natalie Gee is a progressive community organizer and was chief of staff to Supervisor Shaman Walton. That should tell you all you need to know about why we cannot support her for D4 supervisor. Her extremely progressive platform includes supporting unions, opposing recalls and establishing a public bank, just to name a few of her ideological priorities. If you thought those were ideal, how about these: other more pie-in-the-sky priorities are progressive tax measures targeting high earners.
Her claim to fame is her community “activism,” which in politics usually translates into an inability to govern due to adherence to ideology over pragmatism. The Board of Supervisors does not need more activists. It needs stalwart soles who can do the boring work of legislating on behalf of all of us. Gee can continue her brand of progressive activism as Shaman Walton’s Chief of Staff. DO NOT RANK

Incumbent Alan Wong, appointed by Mayor Lurie, was a decent member of the Community College Board, mostly aligned with labor—until suddenly he wasn’t. From a progressive start years ago, he has moved rapidly to the right, supporting the mayor’s Rich Family Zoning Plan and Lurie’s efforts to push homelessness and substance use issues into the criminal justice system.
He has become a loyal Lurie ally, and the board desperately needs more independent voices who are willing to stand up to the mayor.
Four candidates are challenging Wong, and they are generally, if not formally, working together on a ranked-choice voting strategy that could oust a Lurie ally and move a step toward a more independent board.
We endorse that strategy.
Natalie Gee is by far the best candidate in the race. She’s been Sup. Shamann Walton’s chief of staff, and knows both public policy and City Hall politics far better than any of the other candidates, including Wong. She is a progressive in a district that ousted a progressive (Gordon Mar) in favor of a conservative (Joel Engardio)—but the same district then voted to recall Engardio. Gee listens to what the district wants, but is not afraid to say that Housing First matters, that turning the police on unhoused people is not the best solution, and that market-rate housing won’t solve the city’s affordability crisis.
She would be an exceptional addition to the independent bloc on the board, and we happily endorse her.

David Lee has run for office with little success in the past. He started the Chinese American Voter Education Project, and frankly, has been all over the political map in past years. But he’s talking, daily, repeatedly, about the need to municipalize PG&E, and agreed at a recent forum that the city should immediately start the process of eminent domain.

Albert Chow is a hardware store owner and one of the leaders in the Recall Joel Engardio. Chow is the most conservative candidate; he is dubious about most taxes, including Prop. D, and is wary of taking over PG&E’s system. But he is absolutely independent of the mayor and the Lurie cronies; in fact, he said at a recent debate that the Grow SF crowd had offered him a commission appointment if he would drop out of the race, and he refused. So in the spirit of an RCV strategy to replace Wong, we are willing to give him a reluctant nod.

Natalie is a renter herself and an experienced legislative aide who has always stood with tenants, this is an easy endorsement for the SFTU. If you value someone with experience, and a track record of fighting for a more affordable City. Vote for Natalie Gee.

My occupation is Legislative Aide.
I’m running to ensure that working families and everyday people are prioritized at City Hall. My activism started in childhood, when I translated English to Cantonese so my mother could understand what was happening at neighborhood meetings. I’m a graduate of Lowell High School here in the Sunset, and I have spent my 20+ year career fighting for our communities. I’m running to: • Fund effective public safety strategies that bring officers out of their cars and onto the streets. • Build housing without destroying our community and displacing vulnerable residents. • Bring back the common sense compromise on the Great Highway. • Protect children and seniors by making our district the safest for pedestrians. • Save our transit system and keep trains and buses safe, frequent, and efficient. • Invest in our neighborhood commercial corridors and help small businesses thrive. I have the experience and knowledge to make sure that the government works for everyone, a history of community organizing that has always prioritized working families, and the backbone to stand up to special interests and put the needs of D4 residents first. Natalie is a fellow union member of IFPTE, Local 21 and Chief of Staff for Supervisor Shamann Walton. She brings with her years of experience in working with labor and at City Hall. She’s proven herself as someone who can be trusted and taken at her word. In her interview she even advocated for adding a “me too” clause to our next contract so we can lift up to the same wages as our City and County counterparts.
All three of these candidates are concerned about affordable housing, especially the needs of educators to live and work in their communities. Approximately half of the faculty at City College live outside of San Francisco. The prevailing narrative in San Francisco is that by building as much housing as we can the market will simply regulate itself and make housing affordable for everyone. Unregulated growth without a focus on affordable housing only helps the speculators. See the Vancouver model. (https://48hills.org/2024/09/vancouver-study-shows-how-the-yimby-narrative-has-failed-in-real-time/) Our candidates are all focused on creating more housing for working class families and fostering communities of inclusion and equity.
