Judge Martinez was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1989; elected to the circuit court in 2014; retained in 2020. She has been assigned to Domestic Relations since 2016. Prior to her election, she had been a private practitioner and also had worked for the City of Chicago Law Department. She has been a speaker on legal issues and a moot court judge.

She was described by most attorneys as being diligent and hard-working, eager to see families succeed, and as someone who could be stern. ISBA recommends Judge Maritza Martinez be retained to the Circuit Court of Cook County.
