I’m BriTanya! Texas mama, educator & national movement leader. I'm an independent candidate for Texas House Representative for District 71. I believe in protecting what truly matters our families, our dignity, and the people who care for our communities every day.
I may be running as an independent candidate—but I know I’m not alone when I say Texas families are fighting on every front.
While Texas’ economy grows, everyday families are still struggling to make ends meet. I’m a working mom, a former small business owner, and someone who’s been navigating it right alongside you.
I’m running to represent our community and to bring real solutions. I’ve got the track record to prove it.
But I need your help.
To get on the ballot as an independent, I need 500 signatures from neighbors who believe we deserve better.

Families should be able to find care they can afford, close to home, with hours that match real work schedules. Child care providers should earn a living wage and have access to benefits, not be pushed out of their communities by rising costs and low pay.
When child care works, parents can work, small businesses can grow, and communities stay strong.
I have experience as a national, state and local community organizer builiding a base of over 70,000 child care voters across the nation. In Texas, I mobilized families and Texas voters to passe two child care ballot measures that directly supported working families and businesses. Check out my recent news article for more information!
Health care should be about keeping people well, not fighting insurance companies.
That means affordable coverage, accessible clinics, and real support for maternal health, mental health, and preventive care, especially in our rural communities where hospitals are closing and wait times are long.
No one should have to choose between paying rent and seeing a doctor.
Caring for aging loved ones shouldn’t fall entirely on working families.
We need better home- and community-based care, support for family caregivers, and fair pay for care workers. Our elders deserve to age with dignity, and families deserve real support services that meet them where they are.
Families shouldn’t be priced out of basic necessities like a roof over their head!
We need affordable housing options, fair utility rates, and protections that keep people in their homes, especially seniors, working families, and people on fixed incomes.
Care means stability. Stability starts at home.
Strong public schools are the backbone of strong communities.
That means fully funding classrooms, paying teachers, classroom aides, cafeteria workers, bus drivers and every profession in between what they deserve! In Texas, we must support special education, and make sure every child, no matter their zip code has access to a quality education and meaningful support services in the schools, in their homes and in their community.
Children and families shouldn't need a voucher or lottery system when their guaranteed a free, appropriate public education!
Public education is a public good. We should treat it that way.
Better roads means our loved ones get to make it home safely. I support policies that make an active lifestyle possible for our young children and families. Safer kids, stronger local economies, and fewer families spending hours commuting or risking their lives just to get to work or school.
Investing in Safe Streets for All and better road infrastructure that prioritize safety, maintenance, and rural access, not just for the big cities but throughout the Big Country!
Rural families are too often left behind by our Texas lawmakers.
That’s why we must expand broadband access, protect rural hospitals and schools, and invest in local infrastructure so rural communities can thrive, not just survive.
Rural Texas already powers this state. Wind and solar aren’t the problem. The problem is a system that takes energy from our communities without investing back into them. I’m fighting for an energy system that keeps the lights on, lowers bills, and treats rural Texans like partners. We need a people-first approach, not corporate greed.
Farmers are the local caretakers of our land and our food supply.
We should protect family farms, ensure fair markets, invest in climate-resilient agriculture, and strengthen local food systems so farmers can pass their land on to the next generation.
Families and small businesses are being squeezed by rising property taxes while big corporate interests get tax breaks.
We need a fair tax system that protects homeowners, renters, farmers, while strategically investing those dollars back into our local communities.
Strong communities are built locally and we are all taxpayers.
That means we share in investing in our libraries, parks, child care centers, clinics, schools, and small businesses. These are the places where families gather and community members support one another.
Local dollars should serve local needs.
Faith should be a personal choice, not a government mandate.
I am a proud Christian and Texas mother who understands the separation of church and state. And I'm raising my babies to be like Jesus and good humans.
Everyone deserves the freedom to practice their religion—or not—without the state imposing beliefs on families, schools, or health care decisions.
That means respecting and protecting personal liberty for all.
We can respect responsible gun ownership and still protect our kids. As a proud gun owner, I believe in the 2nd amendment!
Common-sense gun laws like safe storage, keeping guns out of the hands of people who pose a danger to themselves or others, and protecting schools and communities are about safety, not party politics.
Care means preventing harm before it happens.
Who Is BriTanya Brown?
I’m a mother, a grassroots organizer, and an independent candidate for Texas House who believes something simple:
When we take care of people, the economy takes care of itself.
Before stepping into public leadership, I was a rural child care provider in West Texas. I ran a 24/7 program serving working families across the Big Country. I worked directly with parents who commuted long distances, juggled multiple jobs, and struggled to afford basic necessities. That experience gave me a firsthand understanding of how policy decisions in Austin impact families in real time.
But I didn’t stop at running a small business. I organized a national movement called A Day Without Childcare and helped grow one of the largest contemporary child care organizing efforts in the country. I built coalitions across political lines, worked with national and state partners, and helped move real policy forward.
In Texas, I supported successful efforts to pass property tax exemptions for child care centers and helped advocate for local child care investment measures that brought funding directly back into communities. I’ve worked alongside educators, parents, small business owners, and rural leaders to strengthen the care economy from the ground up.
Outside of personal care service, I led on national and state transportation policies to support the families who lost loved ones or were injured in crashes. This national push aims to stop the worst-of-the-worst drivers "super speeders" with state level legislation that requires a speed limiting device that would save lives and prevent harm but keep these reckless drivers within the posted speed limits. In addition to fighting for Safe Streets for All and Vision Zero policies, I continue to advocate as a crash survivor.
I hold a degree in Public Policy with an emphasis in Public Administration. I have led teams, managed budgets, coordinated statewide and national campaigns, and built relationships across sectors to turn grassroots momentum into legislative action.
I am running as an independent because I believe our representatives should answer to working families, not party leadership or corporate interests.
My priorities are clear:
Affordable child care
Access to maternal and health care
Fully funded public schools
Safe roads and strong infrastructure
Fair property taxes
Affordable housing and utilities
Support for farmers and rural communities
Broadband expansion
Common-sense gun safety
Religious freedom and personal liberty
I understand what it takes to build coalitions, pass policy, and deliver results. I’ve done it at the grassroots level. Now I’m ready to bring that same people-first leadership to the Texas House.
