I am calling for a statewide “No Rent for Slumlords” law in North Carolina. Tenants should not be required to pay rent for homes with imminently dangerous conditions such as unsafe wiring, no heat or water, structural hazards, or serious mold. This proposal would strengthen tenant protections, discourage retaliation, and create a clear financial incentive for landlords to make critical repairs promptly.
