General-Governing Powers to Self-Governing Powers is on the November 3, 2026 ballot in Columbia Falls, Montana.
On your ballot
The Columbia Falls Local Government Study Commission proposes moving from general-governing powers to self-governing powers by vote of the Columbia Falls electors. Under General-Governing Powers, the City's authority is limited to powers specifically permitted by state law. Self-Governing Powers would grant the City authority to exercise any power not prohibited by state law. This change would expand the range of actions the City may consider to address local issues without waiting for permissive legislation from the state, and the City retains all current powers and authority.
