Columbus Issue 8 is on the November 3, 2026 ballot in Ohio.
What it does
Amend the Columbus City Charter so that only voters living in a council district vote for that district's council member, and allow recall of a district council member by petition of 15% of that district's mayoral-election turnout.
On your ballot
This proposed charter amendment would limit the ability to vote for candidates for Columbus City Council to only those electors living within the districts that those candidates seek to represent.
The amendment specifies that ballots within council districts will include both citywide races as well as the district race.
The amendment allows for the initiation of a recall election of a council district representative if a petition is submitted bearing the signatures of the electors of that district in an amount that is at least fifteen (15%) percent of the votes cast within the district in the preceding mayoral election.
Shall the proposed charter amendment be approved?
What a yes vote means
A "yes" vote supports having voters elect their city council district representatives only within their district, rather than voting on all district seats citywide.

This issue was put on the ballot by a group of grassroots organizers (including me 馃ス) to give the power back to the people of Columbus. Instead of at-large voting for city council that dilutes our power, Issue 8 will require one city council member per district, elected only by the people who live there.
