A "yes" vote supports prohibiting the state, and other government entities, from installing and using new photo enforcement systems to identify people who violate certain traffic ordinances, including traffic signs, markings, signals, and speed restrictions, and requiring local governments that have installed such systems to receive voter approval in order to continue using them.

This bill requires local voter approval before a municipal government can use traffic enforcement cameras, which increasingly include automated license plate recognition (ALPR) technology, like that used by Flock. The state government would be entirely prohibited from using new traffic enforcement cameras systems not already in place. Any technology that tracks the movement of cars and people throughout our streets is prone to abuse.
