This proposal renews a millage for street and road construction and maintenance, previously approved by the electors that expired after the December 2025 levy. The original millage was 2.0 mills,
reduced to 1.9268 mills by required rollbacks. This proposal renews the previously authorized millage, but only up to 1.2500 mills, not the original 2.0 mills.
Shall the previous voted increase in the tax limitations imposed under Article IX, Sec 6 of the Michigan Constitution in St. James Township, of 2.0 mills ($2.00 per $1,000 of taxable value), reduced to 1.9268 mills ($1.9268 per $1,000 of taxable value) by the required millage rollbacks, be renewed at up to 1.2500 mills ($1.25 per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for four years, 2026 through 2029 inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for road construction and maintenance, which 1.2500 mills will raise an estimated $84,991 in the first year the millage is levied?
