As Chief Deputy of the Board of Equalization Fourth District, Cody Petterson is the most qualified candidate on the ballot. He already helps oversee the annual assessment of $167 billion in corporate properties and property tax assessment in California’s 58 counties. “I’m running to restore California’s struggling middle class, rebuild our infrastructure, reinvest in our schools, and spur the production and preservation of housing for working Californians. With half a decade of experience at the BOE, I’m uniquely qualified to leverage the Board’s authority to ensure that utilities pay their fair share for public education and other services and to make our tax system work for working families.” As the immediate past President of the San Diego Unified School Board, Cody Petterson has balanced difficult budgets and prioritized the well-being and academic growth of our children. Cody helped lead approval of more than 2,800 units of affordable housing for teachers and staff—tripling the state total—and serves as founding Chair of the San Diego Regional Housing Finance Authority. At the Board of Equalization, he will be uniquely situated to continue this work. Mike Schaefer, the outgoing Board Member whose seat Dr. Petterson is seeking says, “I strongly endorse Cody. He knows the job inside and out and can hit the ground running. He’s done an outstanding job for me and will do an outstanding job for California’s taxpayers.”
