ISBA: Judge Coughlin was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1996. After a career as a prosecutor, he was elected to the circuit court in 2014 and retained in 2020. He is assigned to a felony courtroom in the Sixth Municipal District (Markham). He has been a speaker on legal topics and in 2024 received the Distinguished Jurist Award from the South and Southwest Suburban Bar Associations.
Attorneys described him as very knowledgeable and always up to date on recent case law, and also as being very fair and respectful to all. ISBA recommends Judge Patrick Kevin Coughlin be retained to the Circuit Court of Cook County.
