Judge Allegretti was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1995. He was appointed to the circuit court in May 2014; elected in November 2014; retained in 2020. He is currently assigned to the First Municipal District, presiding over civil non-jury trials; previous assignments include the County Division, First Municipal and Traffic. He has spoken and written on legal issues, is a member and has served on committees for various bar associations and has served as a volunteer mentor for new judges. Prior to his appointment he was general counsel for the Cook County Treasurer’s office.
Attorneys praised his legal knowledge, research skills, professionalism and fairness. ISBA recommends that Judge John Michael Allegretti be retained to the Circuit Court of Cook County.
