Judge Pieczonka was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1983; elected in 2014 and retained in 2020. He was initially assigned to the First Municipal Paternity, Traffic and Misdemeanor matters in Rolling Meadows. In 2015 he was assigned to the Civil Division; in 2019 to the Civil Jury Section.
Judge Pieczonka currently presides over civil jury trials involving personal injury, property damage, torts, and contracts among other issues. He also serves in rotation with other judges for after-hours duty for emergency matters.
Comments regarding Judge Pieczonka’s judicial performance were positive. He is described as well prepared, consistent, patient, professional, fair, diligent, and efficient. ISBA recommends Judge James Pieczonka be retained to the Circuit Court of Cook County.\
