Judge Rivers was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1996 and the Texas bar in 1996. She was appointed to the circuit court in June 2014; elected to a countywide vacancy in 2014 and retained in 2020. From May 2015 until October 2021, she served in the Juvenile Justice Division. In 2021 she was assigned to the Misdemeanor Petty and Domestic Violence Room in Bridgeview, where she currently hears criminal bench and jury trials.
Judge Rivers is said to be knowledgeable, and able to make fair and thoughtful rulings. She is sensitive to issues confronting the diverse population that appears before her. She is respectful, calm, consistent, and predictable. Judge Rivers is ‘always on time’ and prepared. ISBA recommends Judge Kristal Rivers be retained to the Circuit Court of Cook County.
